Description

Israel is unique in that it functions as a Jewish Democratic state. There is much public debate about whether or not these two seemingly incongruous concepts can co-exist. While the Israeli legal code is secular, there are cases where Jewish values and Jewish law prevails. In recent years, there have been several central laws enacted that play an important role in the day-to-day practice in Israeli hospitals and in the Israeli healthcare system that are based on Jewish values and Halakha. Prof. Halevy discusses the unique nature of Israel as a Jewish Democratic state, with special emphasis on the application of Jewish values and Halakha in the Israeli healthcare system.
