Description
The Rambam in Hilchot Talmud Torah, 1:10 emphasizes the obligation to study Torah constantly even until and including one's final moment of life. Otherwise one is guaranteed that he will violate the prohibition against forgetting one's Torah. Is the Rambam addressing the obligation of Esek HaTorah, or Yediat HaTorah? In Halacha 11 the Rambam codifies the requirement of Shilush, i.e. to divide one's Torah study into three branches, the written Torah, the oral tradition, and the Talmud. Once again: is the Rambam addressing the obligation of Esek HaTorah, or Yediat HaTorah? We will study the practical differences between these to understandings.
