Does Yom Ha'Atzmaut override the observance of the aveilus & restrictions of the Sefira period? What about full or half Hallel? The Rav's attitude towards this day is a result of the complex & sensitve tension between the great significance of the establishment of a Jewish State in the land of Israel as a Divine gift & challenge, and the absolute commitment to the principles of Halacha.
