Insights of the Rav on Eretz Yisrael, Part II
We will continue with the Rav's distinction between Shem E"Y and Kedushas E"Y. The first relates to the eternal acquisition of E"Y by our nation; the second refers to the sanctity of the ground that produces the agricultural products and is relevant to Trumot, Maasrot, and all mitzvot of zeraim. Shem E"Y has implications as far as the mitzva of Yishuv E"Y which depends upon Shem Eretz Yisrael, as well as mitzvos Kiddush HaChodesh, Egla Arufa, Smichas Chachomim and other mitzvos. In this shiur we will explore the Rav's attitude re: the establishment of the State of Israel in modern J. History. Also, would the heter mechira be acceptable for circumventing the Shmitta laws? Who owns the Land? & why did the Rav jump ship and join the Mizrachi?
