In Parshat Balak we learn that Hashem was compassionate about the dignity of Bila'am an evildoer who desired the destruction of our People. What does this teach us about the proper attitude towards evildoers & the enemies of our people? In this shiur we will study the prayer of "Aleinu LeShabeach" which we recite thrice daily as interpreted by the Iyun Tfillah. If we accept his thesis one of the key motifs of Tfillah, namely praying on behalf of evildoers, will henceforth play a central role in our intention during prayer. In this shiur we will examine the chiddush of our Rebby, HaRav Soloveichik, zatza"l, regarding the selection of Shmuel HaKatan to author the section of our daily prayer regarding the destruction of our enemies.
