In the opening section of Part II of Ish Halacha, the Rav weaves verses in Torah and Nach, with statements in the two Talmudim, Medrashim, and Zohar, to establish that the most fervent desire of Halachik man is to become a partner with God in creation and to perfect the world. Long paragraphs are dedicated to detailed descriptions of the forces of Tohu VaVohu, chaos and void, which seek to undermine the created, orderly cosmos. The image of the raging waves that beat up upon the shore symbolizes the struggle between void & chaos and creation. Within the very act of creation itself, God provided man with the opportunity to participate in His creation and to repair its flaws. At the end of days the real world will conform to the ideal world.
