Description

The goal of this shiur is to explain the Takana of Moshe Rabeinu as formulated by the Rambam to "hear" the Torah read on Shabbos, Monday & Thursday. The Rav establishes that with regard to Torah She'bich'tav, there is a mitzva to read the Torah and hear it as a mechanical act devoid of any comprehension of the words of Torah being read. In contrast, the mitzva of Talmud Torah vis-a-vis the Oral Torah can only be achieved through the understanding of the Torah. The reading of Torah She'bal'pech without comprehension is meaningless. In this shiur, the Rambam's long presentation about the sanctity imparted to one who wears tfilin will be analyzed. Tfilin is a mitzvah with two dimensions and two kiyumim.
