There were many misrepresentations made in this lecture. Unfortunately, there isn't the time to go through all of the errors, but allow me to point out a few inaccuracies and errors.

1) The way you sumarized the question posed to Rav Yaakov Sasportes ztl was incorrect. The question addresed by Rav Sasportes ztl was whether in light of Shabsai Tzvi ys'v being revealed as a moshiach sheker, should the the practice of saying Birchas Cohahim - which the Shabsai tzvi ys'v followers instituted in chutz laaretz - continue. B'kitzur, the answer given was that even if halachicly preferable, the practice of birchas kohanim should stop because continuing it would give chizuk to the followers of Shabsai Tzvi ys'v. The source for such a din is the halacha that sefer torah sh'kasav bo min yisraf. The Rambam says the reason for this halacha is shelo l'haniach shem l'apikorsim.

2) Pritzus isn't a problem at the Kosel? Really?

3) The Satmar Rebbe ztl never said that the victory in 1967 was maaseh satan. You don’t have to get very far in Al HaGeulah to know this. I guess that unlike VaYoel Moshe, to be a good zionist you don’t have to know Al HaGeulah baal peh. There are at least five places in the Satmar Rebbe’s ztl writings he openly states that the victory in ‘67 was completely b’derech tevah. The easiest place to look would be pages 36 and 138 in Al HaGeulah. And by the way, it’s not just the Satmar Rebbe ztl that said this. Take a look at the CIA website.

Post Reply Birchat Kohanim on Shabbat

I always wondered why there was a tradition in America not to have Birchat Kohanim on Yom Tov that came out on Shabbat.

Today, people have changed and said it was minhag shtut

I have a theory. you mentioned that Shabtai Tzvi wanted to institute duchan on Shabbat and the traditional Jews said no way.

Based on that it could be that people became confused and stopped duchan on shabbat all the time, even on Yom Tov that comes out on Shabbat.
