Lecture given on a bus on Italy. Rabbi Schachter discusses the laws of not showing interest in avodah zara. Rabbi Eliezer B'R' Yosi saw in Rome, a tzitz of a kohen gadol. It is forbiden to enter a church. How is a gentile mevatel a church, avodah zara, na'ei avodah zara, tikrovet avoda zara or meshamshei avoda zara? It is forbiden to buy items in a store, where the profits go to a avoda zara. Can one buy a church from gentiles, and convert it to a shule? Is the temple mount kodesh today? The menorah on the Arch of Titus, depicts a menorah wiith curved branches. Judaism has nothing in common with other religions. Hashem suspended the bechira chafshis of gedolim in pre-war Europe.       <p>Rabbi Schachter added in a later shiur, that even if the Vatican museum is owned by the municipality, and the profit goes to the city and not to the church, one should still not take a tour of the Vatican museum, because the tour focuses on statues and other avodah zara. One would certainly not be allowed to enter the Sistine chapel. One should focus on the kisvei kodesh that the Vatican has.</p>
