Description

Shiur given on a bus in Italy. Parshat Matot-Masei. Today we practice hatarat nedarim, not hafarat nedarim. The rabbis preferred to observe mitzvot, which were not specifically written in the Torah, to show that they disagree with the karaim. One does not have to repeat three times the text of mutar lach. What is the origin of saying kol nidrei at the beginning of the yom kippur service? Why was there a parade on yom kippur, in Alexandria, Egypt? How many mitzvot are included in the aseret hadibrot? What is learned from a gematria? Is dividing up the spoils of war with soldiers part of taryag mitzvot? Hatarat nedarim, and hedushei kesef, are part of torah shel baal peh. For circumcision, we use a knife. We eat hot food on shabbat- minhag.
