Description
Why is Balak overwhelmed with fear regarding Bnei Yisrael? Is it simply because of the comparative size of the Jewish nation, i.e. given that Moav was a people smaller in number? The Ramban adds a new dimension to our understandung of the fear of Moav. What caused "VaYakatz"? After all, Moav knew that the Jewish nation has a special supernatural, Divine protection. Otherwise how did this nation of slaves defeat the powerful empire of Mitzrayim? So too the defeat of Sichon & Og could only be possible if the Jews are living on a miraculous plane of existence. There's nothing natural about the existence of the Jewish people! Yet the Torah testifies that Moav was "disgusted" by the people of Israel! What does this teach us about antisemitism?
