The episode of Sarah's treatment of Hagar, and Hagar's subsequent escape from the house of Avraham is one of the most challenging ones in Sefer Bereishit. How could the couple which brought the concept of unbounded chessed, limitless generosity, to the moral universe, have behaved with such callousness?
