| Rabbi Sacks, the Henry H. Guterman Professor of Talmud at the Yeshiva Program/Mazer School of Talmudic Studies of Yeshiva University, has been a rosh yeshiva since 1994. Rabbi Sacks graduated from Yeshiva College in 1981. He was ordained by the University’s affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) in 1984, and two years later was awarded Semikha Yadin Yadin, an advanced rabbinic ordination enabling him to serve as a posek - decisor of Jewish law.
While at RIETS, Rabbi Sacks was a fellow of the Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Kollel Elyon, the renowned post-graduate institute for advanced rabbinic ordination; and the Marcos and Adina Katz Kollel, the institute for advanced research in Rabbinics.
Rabbi Sacks is the spiritual leader of Congregation Agudas Israel of Passaic, New Jersey. He descends from a long line of illustrious rabbinic personalities. His great grandfather, the legendary Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank, served as Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem for more than 50 years. His grandfather, Rabbi Menachem Sacks was head of Jewish education in Chicago for nearly six decades, and his father, Rabbi Louis L. Sacks, was rabbi of Congregation Anshe Emunah in Del Ray Beach, FL. |
